In the midst of problems or trauma, it’s not uncommon for people to “fish in the desert.” They go to the wrong places in a desperate attempt to medicate their pain, such as bars, nightclubs, berrhouses, gambling or prostitution dens. To feel good at least for a moment, they fall into alcohol, sex, drugs, pornography, extramarital affairs, overspending, food addiction, meanness or rage…only to find out soon that such only worsens or deepens their pain. Severe woundedness tends to bury or destroy one’s value system. When it occurs, one ends up doing things he never imagines he’s capable of doing in his whole life. It is never too late to change ways. Start by going in the right places. Nurture your psychological, emotional, physical, and spiritual life. Go for lasting healing and wellness.
