You are not your shoes! That’s not your central being.
We live in a world where the worth of our self can be “PREFORMULATED.” I’m reminded of a counselee who says that he is his money in his bank account. Without money in the bank, he does not feel good about his self. In fact, he feels that he is nothing.
How oftenly familiar this is, isn’t it? People think they are their shoes! They equate their self to their externals, such as work, money, car, titles, degrees, body Etc, when they should be separate. A large part of it is PREFORMULATED cultural prescription, not just a kind of psychological disturbance.
You are not your shoes! That’s not your core being, your true identity. To heals means you “disidentify” from what is not your core. You are not your externals. Although your body or money or any external is imperiled, you yourself, your vital essence is intact.
