What is Effective Therapy?

If you’re looking for therapy, you need to see that some therapies are better than others. Let me give you some “bullet points” on what I believe is effective therapy:

•  its pragmatic rather than ideological

•  it examines life on its totality rather than focusing exclusively on your addiction, pathology, or presenting problem

•  it emphasizes natural processes of life, such as building on your individual strengths and resources in your social environment

•  it works by strengthening the foundations of your life rather than quarantining you in groups of fellow sufferers

•  it’s geared towards concrete results rather than putting a “label” on you

•  its a values-based, nondisease approach to accomplish your life goals as you cope with your self and life’s challenges
