Obesity and Mental Health

We can know that there is a connection between obesity and mental health. Since obesity always involves food addiction, then we may surmise that obese people don’t take care of themselves. Being fat or overweight due to overeating kills.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are more than 1 billion adults on earth who are overweight, and another 600 million people are obese. Carrying too much body weight is now second to smoking as a cause of premature death in North America and Europe.

Doctors have long warned that being overweight leads to health complications including heart disease, stroke, and cancer. Previous studies have also found that extra pounds can take years off your life. Richard Preto of Oxford University states in a study that overweight people lose a year of life on average, being severely obese costs as much as 8 years of life.

If you don’t want to die earlier because of obesity, then you should take steps to do something about your weight. It starts in the mind. You control your thoughts of food and being addicted to extreme amounts of eating or eating the wrong foods.

Sure, weight loss even a few pounds and keeping them off is notoriously difficult – physically and psychologically. Yet it can be done with a proper motivation, discipline, and tools or resources. Your life depends on it.
